Learning Target: Create fully rendered color drawings based on free choice subject matter. Connect knowledge of value scale and rendering techniques to drawings made from observation and imagination. Students will begin their preliminary work on the Free Choice Drawing today in class. They will begin by completing the brainstorming section on the "Free Choice Drawing Summative Document" on Google Classroom. In addition, students will complete 6-8 thumbnail drawings of their Free Choice Drawing. Meet with me to show your written proposal and 6-8 thumbnails for the final free choice drawing. Get started on Free Choice drawings, making sure your drawing meets the criteria of the project. Free Choice Drawing studio work day after discussing ideas for final project. Tuesday 12/20 Continue your Art History inspired drawing with the color media of your choice. This drawing will need to be complete by the end of next class. Thursday 12/22 Complete your Art History inspired drawing with the color media of your choice. Once the drawing is complete you will need to photograph your work on the black bulletin board and upload the image to the folder titled "Art History Drawings" on Google Classroom. Monday 12/12 Continue Sketchbook worksheet pages and turn in with SKBK rubric for grading. Wednesday 12/14 Begin researching Art History inspired color drawing on the "250 Image Set" presentation on Google Drive. See the expectations for the assignment on the "Art History Drawing Project" sheet on Google Classroom and complete the questions at the bottom of the sheet. Friday 12/16 Begin planning your Art History inspired drawing in your sketchbook. Expiriment with the color media of your choice, and how you will create your marks with the media. Once you are done with your preliminary work, see Mr. Lamp to discuss your media, paper size, and composition. Begin drawing on the final paper after discussing your plan with Mr. Lamp. Wednesday 11/16 Finish Sketchbook requirements for Self Portrait. See last week's Thursday description for details. If all of the sketchbook requirements are complete do a practice self portrait in your sketchbook with the media you will use for the real thing (gray scale pastels or ebony pencil). Friday 11/18 Sketchbooks are due with all planning for self portrait. Meet with me to show your sketches. Make sure your SKBK rubric is completed for the meeting. Begin mapping out your full sized self portrait on either 18 x 24 or 12 x 18 paper. Monday 10/31 Students that have not completed their dramatically lit still-life will finish in class today. Work not complete at the end of class will need to be finished outside of class time. Students that finish their still-life will spray the drawing with fixative and create a view finder in class. They will then begin looking for photographs for their next drawing on value. How to work from a photograph and still make it original and unique. Discuss viewfinder and demonstrate its usage. Choose BW photo to work from and use ebony pencil to create a fully rendered (gradation style mark-making) drawing from the photo. Wednesday 11/2 Learn to do the following with photos:

Discuss building a composition that is creative and dynamic and utilizes the entire space. Discuss developing your own mark. Continue the mantra: Draw what you see, not what you know. Tuesday 9/27 Draw 10 boxes in One and Two point perspective. Emphasis on showing 3-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface and developing accurate perspective. Continue designing notes pages in sketchbook. Create 1-2 pages about perspective and connect to your own experience or ideas. Thursday 9/29 Work from observation to apply perspective principles. PS5- Develop portfolio exhibit of drawings that exhibit varied line types and qualities. Choose one drawing to exhibit that best illustrates the student’s learning. PS6- Evaluate the collection of drawings with a written artist statement using the It’s CLEAR format for writing. Explain how the criteria was met for this unit. Explain what elements and principles of art were used. Explain which drawing(s) you feel are best and why. Describe improvements or changes. Explain how to implement these changes. Tuesday 9/13 Students will work on their contour still life drawings today in class. Working in a small group, they will create a still life using a piece of cloth and a minimum of 4 additional items. The still-life needs to have a complex composition, demonstrate space through overlapping objects, and have objects that interact. Students will use a variety of media to complete their contour still-life drawing. Thursday 9/15 Review blind contour and contour. Students will complete their still-life study today in class. Unit Name: Unit 1- Line-The Most Basic Element of Design Unit Description: Create a series of line drawings that demonstrate your knowledge of line including, blind contour, contour, gesture, open, closed, parallel and varied line. Assessment in This ClassAs always the artwork you create and the way you present it will influence the grades you receive in this class. We are in our second year as a district using Standards Based Grading. With each unit you will see a highly detailed form that describes the assignment and shows what Reportable Standards and Priority Standards are being covered in the unit. As we've done in the past you will participate in the critique process, which involves presenting your finished artwork and evaluating it in verbal and written form.
Getting Started We will be setting up our online and in class room learning environment in the first days of class. You will want to bookmark the following:
Supplies For daily class you need your laptop and you also will need a sketchbook and number two pencil. The Sketchbook should have at least 50 pages and be book or spiral bound. 8.5" x 11" or 9" x 12" is a perfect size. Drawing Inspirations:
