20% Project Inspires Creativity in Introduction to Art Classes
Mrs. Olson's Introduction to Art students had an opportunity to spend 20% of their class time on a project they were passionate about. They planned, researched and documented their process. They presented their finished artwork, process and reflection to students, teachers and administrators in the PHS Library and Commons during final class week at the end of the semester. The presentations created a lively, collaborative approach to assessing progress and learning.

Here is a video overview of our department. Art Student Inspires Appetites
Talented art and graphic design student, James Walter collaborated with Ms. Bjork and Mr. Demers to create wonderful labels for the culinary arts classes pumpkin puree and kale pesto. These items have become a sought after aspect of the fall holiday season, with product usually selling out before demand is met. This years label was part of the attraction too, or was it the delicious product? GREAT JOB JAMES!
Art Club Completes Memory Project
The Pewaukee High School Art Club is devoted to service in the community. This past school year our connections took us beyond Pewaukee and connected us to India through The Memory Project.
PHS was partnered with children from India and enlisted the help of a few non-Art Club artists to help create the 20 portraits. Students chose to work in media they felt comfortable using including acrylic paint, watercolors and digital painting/drawing. The results are fabulous and highlight each student artist's style through their interpretation of the young person. For more on the project visit The Memory Project website. Here is the video of our children receiving their portraits. About the Memory Project: The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as violence, disasters, extreme poverty, neglect, and loss of parents. We want the portraits to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For the art students, we want this to be an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness.
