Mrs. Bjork recently presented two sessions at the Wisconsin Art Education Association's Fall Conference Bold and Bright.  The Thursday session called Chit Chat-Twitter Chat, featured tips for art educators on becoming involved in the online chat communities on Twitter.  It encouraged educators to connect their art rooms beyond the four physical walls by reaching out to educators around the country via chats.  The Friday session called Everything Old is New Again, featured the PHS Digital Photography program and the unit on Alternative Photography processes called Cyanotype.  Over 50 educators from around the state took part in these two sessions.   If you participated in this session click here to download the handout from the session.

Gene Frett Visual Art Scholarship Application NOW Open

The Gene Frett Visual Art Scholarship (Pewaukee Scholarship Fund)
The Pewaukee High School Visual Arts Scholarship was founded in 2007 to offer scholarships to promising PHS artists to enable their pursuit of excellence in the visual arts at the college level.
In 2012 a generous donation by Terry and Lauree Frett  in honor of Terry’s dad Gene was made; thus renaming the scholarship.  Gene Frett worked for Binney-Smith selling art supplies to classroom teachers.  The scholarship came under the umbrella of the Pewaukee Scholarship Fund with this donation and renaming. In 2014 the Frett family donated an additional amount to the fund to raise the annual scholarship to $1500.00.   The scholarship continues to support the studies of Pewaukee High School Visual Art students looking to continue their pursuit of excellence at the college level.  Please carefully read and complete this application packet.  The scholarship amount is $1500.00 annually awarded to a deserving artist as identified through this process.

PHS AP Studio Art and Art History Visit Chicago Museums

In November the PHS Visual Art Department embarked on their annual field trip to Chicago.  Students in AP Studio Art and Art History class were invited to partake in the all day field trip.  Accompanied by Mr. Lamp and Mrs. Bjork the group explored the Chicago Art Institute Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.  In addition to looking at art the group also did a walking tour of Millenium Park and the Magnificent Mile buildings and architecture.  As always the trip was exhilirating, creative and inspiring.  The day culminated with dinner at the Water Tower Mall.  For more on the great day see the slideshow of images here.

Italy Trip A Huge Success

The Visual Art Department has returned from a glorious, but fast 7 day excursion to Italy.  Students experienced the art, culture, language, food, history and people of Italy during the fast-paced exploration.  We spent time in Venice, Florence, Assisi, Rome and Pompeii.  Students saw many world renowned works of art including, Michelangelo's David, the Uffizi Art collection, the Roman Forum and Colosseum and more.  Check out the slideshow here for details.
