Art Students Commit to Community Service through Art
A group of volunteer art students enriched the Lifestriders Derby Days event with their talents by hosting a face painting station for participants. LifeStriders is a non-profit organization that provides life-enhancing, physical and psychological experiences and services to individuals and families with special needs. Through Equine-Assisted Therapy, children and adults can experience the beneficial physical and mental benefits achieved through the human-horse connection.
It was a great effort by PHS Art students with Kiley Clarquist and Robin Otto leading the team of students. Kiley in particular, was an outstanding leader organizing the student volunteers, the volunteers schedule and the designs they offered to the group. Thanks also to Marcus Forney, Lexi Gonzalez, Abby Hansen, Maia and Leila Cornelius and Makenna Chapman, Fantastic job PHS Artists! Truly an awesome display of the graduate profile CARE and COMMIT competencies. AP Art Exhibition Now On Display
Congratulations to the PHS AP Art and Design students for their second semester exhibition on display at PHS. We tried something new with the first ever exhibit on the stage in the new commons space near the office. Congratulations to: Lee Haupert and Heather Sunderlage for their outstanding work collaborating to create a unique exhibition. The exhibit will be up through June 6th.
Art Club Completes Memory Project
The Pewaukee High School Art Club is devoted to service in the community. This past school year our connections took us beyond Pewaukee and connected us to Sierra Leone through The Memory Project.
PHS was partnered with children from Sierra Leone and enlisted the help of a few non-Art Club artists to help create the 25 portraits. Students chose to work in media they felt comfortable using including acrylic paint, watercolors and digital painting/drawing. The results are fabulous and highlight each student artist's style through their interpretation of the young person. Here is the video of children from Sierra Leone receiving the portraits. For more on the project visit The Memory Project website. About the Memory Project: The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as violence, disasters, extreme poverty, neglect, and loss of parents. We want the portraits to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For the art students, we want this to be an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness. Congratulations Scholastic Art Awards from 2021-22 School Year
