Welcome  to the Pewaukee High School Visual Art Department.  You will find many visual art resources, links to our programs, classes and more.

This website includes a great deal of helpful information.  At the top you will find tabs and drop-down tabs for many of the outstanding programs and classes we offer.  Students will find their assignments embedded in the class pages for each of the classes we teach.  For syllabi and standards information click the Classes tab.   There are lots of art galleries within this site.  If you click on the class tab at the top a drop down menu will show all the classes we offer in the Visual Art Department.  Each of those pages has a gallery of some of the works created by students in the course, (except for those that are new courses). There is also a chart of all the courses offered that may be helpful to plan your art future.

Graphic Design Class Collaborates with Pewaukee Kiwanis Club

Mrs. Bjork's Graphic Design class recently collaborated with the Pewaukee Kiwanis Club to create items for several Kiwanis sponsored community events.  Students designed Beach Party Tee shirts and RiverRun buttons.  Both items are sold at the Kiwanis events in May and June. Congratulations to Sammy Pfister for her winning tee shirt design and Miriam John for her winning button design.

The experience was invaluable for students, giving them the opportunity to design for a real client and real event.  Seeing their designs on actual products to be sold at the events was a huge boost to their professional portfolios. It was important for students to have the chance to communicate with Kiwanis members as actual clients to learn to develop the rapport needed between designers and their customers.  The winning student for each item received a check for $25.00 and a copy of the button and shirt.  This was a great way for students to learn from an authentic experience.

PHS Visual Art Students Win in State Scholastic Art Competition

There is a public reception and  awards ceremony on Saturday, February 10 from 11:00 - 4:00.  It honors all recipients including Honorable Mention.  Students get to walk across stage and have their name and award announced in the Calatrava Atrium space at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Mrs. Bjork Presents at Wisconsin Art Education Association Fall Conference

Picture
Mrs. Bjork is presenting two sessions at the state art education conference on October 27-28th.  Both of the presentations highlight Digital Photography techniques she teaches students in the Digital Photography 1 and 2 classes at PHS.  Mrs. Bjork is also a practicing artist herself and employs many of these techniques in her own work.  The presentations will feature hands on examples of PHS student art and Mrs. Bjork's own art.

Digital Gets Dirty-Alternative Printmaking Techniques discusses the many alternative ways to create a photographic print including transfers to wood, glass metal and even tortillas!  This session was also presented at the National Art Education Association's spring National conference in Chicago, IL in March 2016 and at WAEA State Conference in 2014.  The presentation is titled:  Digital Gets Dirty-Experimental Printmaking Processes with Digital Photography.   An article about the topic was also written by Ms. Bjork and featured in the May/June issue of Davis Publications School Arts Magazine in 2016. To download a handout from the presentation click here.

The second presentation Making Magic-Light Painting Photography explores slow shutter photographic techniques that allow students to create unusual works of art that glow and illuminate the page.  An article about this topic was written by Ms. Bjork and featured in the October issue of Davis Publications School Arts Magazine in 2017   To download a copy of the handout from this presentation click here.

PHS Art Department Set to Travel to Italy Again in 2018

Recently the Visual Art Department presented their Italy trip to the PSD School Board.  The presentation featured Mr. Lamp, Mrs. Bjork, ACMS teacher Candace Greupnink and students Jenna Anderson, Ashley Hohnstein, Emma Steiler and Macey Wolfe discussing the summer of 2016 trip.  Students and teachers discussed the value of traveling abroad including the impact it had on learning about art and art history, the rich connections students made and much more.  The School Board then heard the rationale for the PHS Visual Art planning the 2018 Italy trip.  They unanimously approved this plan.  Please watch for future details about this incredible opportunity for students.
Currently the travel abroad opportunity is open to AP Studio, AP Art History and Art History students first.  We will consider opening up to additional students if we have space.

The informational Meeting was held March 22, 2017.  If you would like to learn more about the Travel Abroad opportunity and you missed the meeting please contact Mr. Lamp.
