DESCRIPTION
This advanced level art course will explore higher-level concepts in drawn and painted media. Advanced knowledge of the elements and principles of art will be applied to assignments that build on skills developed in Drawing 1 and Painting 1 including, figure studies, still life and other observational approaches to art. Development of unique concepts, innovative compositions and quality mastery of media will be emphasized. Students will work from the same assignments but will chose to focus on either drawn media or painted media for the semester. Students can take this course twice, once as Painting 2 and once as Drawing 2.

- Reportable Standard 1 CREATE: Plans complex concepts for creative artwork that connect to history, society and/or personal life experiences.
- Reportable Standard 2 CREATE: Plans and develops complex compositions through quality craftsmanship.
- Reportable Standard 3 PRESENT & RESPOND: Interpret and evaluate the meaning of art work through the critique process.
Priority Standards for Visual Art
Students will:
- Apply and utilize the elements and principles of design in the creation of visual art.
- Create and plan artwork that illustrates quality craftsmanship: evidence of technical proficiency and visual acuity.
- Create and plan artwork that illustrates complex composition: evidence of competent visual organization and design.
- Create and plan artwork that illustrates complex conceptual development: evidence of a clearly thought-out and communicated idea.
- Present final artworks for public display via internet or gallery exhibit.
- Analyze, evaluate and critique artwork in oral and written form using art-specific vocabulary to respond to and interpret artwork.
- Connect artistic ideas and works with personal, societal, cultural and historical context to deepen understanding.
