Unit 5: Digital Self-Portrait

Assignment Description: Digital Self-Portrait
Create a self-portrait utilizing digital imaging software and digital paint and photo editing techniques.  Choose a master artist from the list provided and emulate that artist’s style in the portrait you create.

Week of January 27 - 31 

Wednesday 1/29/Thursday 1/30: 
Introduction to Sumopaint Digital Photography/Painting assignment.  How to use digital pens, how to use software etc.

Friday 1/31/Monday 2/3:  
Students will take notes on drawing a self-portrait with proper proportion and face mapping.  They will create a practice portrait in their sketchbook.

Week of February 3-7

Tuesday 2/4/ Wednesday 2/5:  
Students will begin their self-portrait drawing on a large piece of paper.  They will use a mirror and focus on creating a portrait with proper proportion.

Thursday 2/6 /Friday 2/7:  
Students will learn about composition and light when creating a photograph.  They will have the opportunity to take photographs in class, finish their Sumo Paint sketch, complete their NING post on a master artist, and work on their self-portrait drawing in class.

Week of February 10-14

Monday 2/10 & Tuesday 2/11
Continue working on the Digital Photography/Painting assignment.  Students should have their photograph ready for class today and begin to create their digital painting.
Students can also work on their self-portrait drawing.

Wednesday 2/12 & Thursday 2/13
Continue working on the Digital Photography/Painting assignment.  Students will use their digital photograph to create a digital painting in the style of the master artist they selected.  Students can work on their self-portrait drawing if they finish the digital painting in class.

Friday 2/14 & Monday 2/17
Students will finish their Digital Photography/Painting assignment in class today.  They will also be able to work on their self-portrait drawing in class when their digital painting is complete and submitted.
Critique next class.  All projects need to be handed in using the correct Google Folder for your class.  Your teacher will share the link here.  You need to turn in your work digitally for the critique.  Make sure it is saved as a jpg not a sumopaint file.

Students will finish their Digital Photography/Painting assignment in class today.  They will also be able to work on their self-portrait drawing in class when their digital painting is complete and submitted.
