The art exhibit will be on display through June 10th.  Please stop by to see the show!

Gene Frett Visual Art Scholarship Recipient Chosen

The Gene Frett Visual Art Scholarship committee has chosen their 2014 recipient.  Congratulations to Marissa Fritz, Senior at PHS.  Marissa is planning to attend either UW-Milwaukee or Columbia University in Chicago.  Her goal is to study film, video and photography.  Congratulations to all the applicants.  It was challenging for the committee to select a winner since there were so many talented artists.
Here is a sample of some of Marissa's Art Work:

Pewaukee Area Arts Council Visits PHS

Juli Garton of the Pewaukee Area Arts Council, PAAC will be visiting several PHS Visual Art classes this week.  Her goal is to inform students of the many ways they can connect to the Pewaukee art community through a student membership in the program.  PAAC hosts a variety of arts events for the community, including the biannual Showcase of Art Exhibit.  Students will receive information on the organization.  For more visit PAAC's website:  PEWAUKEEARTS.ORG

Tile-A-Mile:  Raised over $2000.00 for Visual Art Scholarships and Programs- THANK YOU PEWAUKEE!!!

TILE-A-MILE was a huge success.  We raised over $2000.00 for Visual Art scholarships and programs.  participants loved the community art making event and found many valuable, family friendly activities to do all in the name of art.  Thanks so much to the Parent and Student volunteers who helped run Tile A Mile.  Mr. Lamp and I could not have done the event without your wonderful help.

Article About Pewaukee High School Art Students Published in National Magazine

Picture
Mrs. Bjork wrote an article about one of the new National Standards on Presenting for Davis Publications' School Arts Magazine, a national art education article.  The article featured information about Pewaukee High School AP Art students and the exhibit they present each school year in January and again in May.

Hey I Wanna See Some Art!

There are lots of art galleries within this site.  If you click on the class tab at the top a drop down menu will show all the classes we offer in the Visual Art Department.  Each of those pages has a gallery of some of the works created by students in the course. There is also a chart of all the courses offered that may be helpful to plan your art future.

The Visual Art Department is home to two visual art educators. Ben Lamp and Jeanne Bjork.  We are both passionate about connecting the PHS Visual Art students to the many fantastic arts organizations and communities in Milwaukee and around the world.  If you have questions the best way to reach us is via email.  Just click our names or our pictures and it should take you directly to the email address.

Meet Ben Lamp, the new Visual Art teacher at Pewaukee High School.   Please welcome him and his fantastic ideas to PHS!  Here's a bit more about him.

Hi, I am excited to begin my first year teaching Art Fundamentals, Sculpture, and Fashion Analysis at Pewaukee High School.  This will be my eighth year teaching Art at the high school level, and I love sharing my passion for art with aspiring young artists.  I look forward to working with a new group of students, encouraging their artistic abilities, and sharing new artistic experiences.

During my free time, I love spending time with my wife, son, and friends.  I also enjoy a variety of sports, playing golf, fishing, and creating my own art, of course.

Art Club Visits Glass Studio

The Art Club celebrated their year of community service and general art-fullness by visiting Square One Glass Studio in Milwaukee, WI.  We each had the opportunity to learn how to blow glass and create beautiful colored glass orbs that can be hung in windows or gardens.  Pictures of our work will be coming soon.  Thanks so much to the students for being such a great group this year!  Have a wonderful summer.

Pewaukee Kiwanis Club Chooses Design Student's Work for Upcoming Events

Picture
Mrs. Bjork's Design class partnered with the Pewaukee Kiwanis Club for a "real life" design job.  Students competed to design their own interpretations of the Pewaukee Beach Party Tee Shirt and Pewaukee RiverRun button.  In the end the designs of Design student Tyler Stanczak were favored by the club and chosen for printing.  Both designs were chosen due to their bold graphic colors, strong typographic design and outstanding composition.  Congratulations to Tyler for his excellent work.  Thanks to the Kiwanis for providing this wonderful opportunity to Pewaukee High School Visual Art Students.

PHS Art Students Work Honored in Scholastic Competition

Picture
The Visual Art Department is thrilled to announce that five of our talented art students have been recognized with honorable mention awards for the Scholastic Art Contest.  The Scholastic Art contest is a national art competition with students competing against other state visual art students for award recognition.  It is extremely difficult to be recognized making us truly proud of our Pewaukee High School Visual Art students!

The students receiving awards included:

Mr. Lamp’s Art Fundamentals students, Rachel Bergelin and Hope Zimmerman
Mrs. Bjork’s Animation students Kelly Kempen and Sam Knepprath and her AP Art Studio student Erika Jackson.

Congratulations to these talented artists.  They will receive their award in February at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

The Slide show  and animations below represent some of the works entered and some of those chosen.

So Why This Website, Not School Fusion?

We decided this site could provide us more flexible options to highlight the many fabulous accomplishments of our students.  School Fusion will be the basic splash page for you and your student to access a link to this site.  At each School Fusion Class page you will find a link to the class page for that specific course here.

Now that Pewaukee High School is a Google school and students have google accounts we decided to utilize the many tools that Google has to offer.  To that end, homework assignments and deadlines will all be posted via the Google Calendar embedded on the Calendar Tab.  Students will be given instructions how to subscribe to the calendar or they can always just visit the tab. When you click on a calendar event it will give you a description of the event details.

You may also want to subscribe to the Art Blog  embedded here on the site.  There will be updates and Art News posted regularly.  You can subscribe via RSS or email.
