PHS AP Studio Art and Art History Visit Chicago MuseumsIn November the PHS Visual Art Department embarked on their annual field trip to Chicago. Students in AP Studio Art and Art History class were invited to partake in the all day field trip. Accompanied by Mr. Lamp and Mrs. Bjork the group explored the Chicago Art Institute Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition to looking at art the group also did a walking tour of Millenium Park and the Magnificent Mile buildings and architecture. As always the trip was exhilirating, creative and inspiring. The day culminated with dinner at the Water Tower Mall. For more on the great day see the slideshow of images here.
New Art On Display In PHS GalleriesIn case you haven't been up to school lately, there is an ever evolving exhibit of student art work on display in the gallery spaces adjacent to the cafeteria and office. Come see the newer work that has gone up recently. It features many classes at PHS including Mrs. Bjork's Graphic Design, Digital Photography 1 classes and Mr. Lamp's Drawing 1, and Sculpture 1 classes. The work in the P case features cyanotype, an old fashioned alternative photographic process. Students worked in a makeshift darkroom. For more on this see that WAEA presentation Mrs. Bjork hosted in October. The Drawings featured in the gallery show students' learning on developing value range in their drawings. This is a challenge for students, but these works highlight the beautiful observational work students created. There is much more to see so do stop by soon!
