Assignment Description: Create an original cartoon character reduction print utilizing 4 ink colors (includes black and white as colors). Consider designing text into your print as well.

Week of March 24-28

Friday 3/28
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will be introduced to the relief printmaking process and requirements for the printmaking project.  They will begin their thumbnail drawings and a 6" x 6" full color plan drawing.

Week of March 31-April 4

Monday 3/31
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will be introduced to the relief printmaking process and requirements for the printmaking project.  They will begin their thumbnail drawings and a 6" x 6" full color plan drawing.

Thursday 4/3 & Friday 4/4
Mrs. Bjork's class: Students will be introduced to the relief printmaking process and requirements for the printmaking project.  They will begin their thumbnail drawings and a 6" x 6" full color plan drawing.

Week of April 7-11

Monday 4/7 & Tuesday 4/8
Students will complete their full color plan drawing for their reduction print.  They will also transfer their design on to a block of linoleum.  The process for carving linoleum will be demonstrated, and students may begin practicing on a separate block.

Wednesday 4/9 & Thursday 4/10
Students will begin carving their linoleum using the proper procedures that were taught during the previous class.  While carving, always cut away from your body and never place your free hand in front of the cutter.  Students that do not need to carve before printing or that finish carving before the end of the hour may continue working on their cartoon.

Friday 4/11
Students will view a demonstration on proper printing procedures and learn about editions and how to label a print.  Students that have completed their first stage of carving may begin printing their first color today in class.

Week of April 14-18

Week of April 21-25

Monday 4/21
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum according the the plan they created in their sketchbook.  Proper procedures for carving and printing will be reviewed, and students must follow these procedures at all times.

Tuesday 4/22 & Wednesday 4/23
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum, following their plan and the proper procedures demonstrated during class.  Students should have 2 colors printed by the end of class today.  Cartoons may also be worked on today during class.

Thursday 4/24 & Friday 4/25
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum, following their plan and the proper procedures demonstrated during class.  Students should be ready to print their 3rd color by the end of class.  Cartoons may also be worked on today during class.

Week of April 28-May 2

Monday 4/28 & Tuesday 4/29
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum, following their plan and the proper procedures demonstrated during class.  Students should have 3 colors printed by the end of class today.  Cartoons may also be worked on today during class.

Wednesday 4/30 & Thursday 5/1
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum, following their plan and the proper procedures demonstrated during class.  Students should be ready to print their 4th color by the end of class.  Cartoons may also be worked on today during class.

Friday 5/2 - Half classes
Students will work on reduction prints and cartoons in class today.

Week of May 5-9

Monday 5/5 & Tuesday 5/6
Students will be finalizing their lino-cut reduction prints.  Students will choose one print to mount for critique.  They will also be working on artist statements in class.
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will also be allowed to work on their cartoons in class. 

Photograph your work and post a written artist statement to the Ning to discuss your print.

Wednesday 5/7 & Thursday 5/8
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will complete their printmaking in class, including mounting their work and completing their artist statement.  They will also be allowed to complete their cartoon in class.
Thursday: Mrs. Bjork's class will be working to finish their linocut prints for Monday's critique.  Make sure you've posted a photo and artist statement to the ning. 

Friday 5/9
