Art Department Collaborates to Add Artwork to PHS Library
Ms Bjork and Ms Olson have been collaborating with Mr. Lamp to add some excellent artwork to the PHS Library. The space is inviting, but definitely will benefit from the addition of art work to enliven the space.
Coming soon will be an exhibition of portraiture created by Ms. Bjork's Digital Photography 1 and Introduction to Digital Media classes. Students studied the history of portraiture as it relates to art and specifically to digital media. They learned how to take their images beyond selfies to truly express the personality of the subject through lighting, special effects and painted elements. Students also learned the basics of strong composition techniques. Ms Olson's classes are still in the process of designing their three dimensional elements. Lots more will be coming soon! Stay Tuned.... Fantastic Abstract Art Exhibition On Display Now!
Ms. Bjork's Painting 1 students recently completed their study of abstract art. They learned about it's role in the history of art. Understandings were expanded as students soon realized designing abstract works is more challenging than realism. Students chose a word or phrase or quote to base their works upon. The exhibition was fully installed by the students as they made decisions about which works would look best together. It's a great show. Stop by soon to see it.
Congratulations Scholastic Art Awards from 2020-2021 School Year

Here is a video overview of our department. Art Student Inspires Appetites
Talented art and graphic design student, James Walter collaborated with Ms. Bjork and Mr. Demers to create wonderful labels for the culinary arts classes pumpkin puree and kale pesto. These items have become a sought after aspect of the fall holiday season, with product usually selling out before demand is met. This years label was part of the attraction too, or was it the delicious product? GREAT JOB JAMES!
Art Club Completes Memory Project
The Pewaukee High School Art Club is devoted to service in the community. This past school year our connections took us beyond Pewaukee and connected us to India through The Memory Project.
PHS was partnered with children from India and enlisted the help of a few non-Art Club artists to help create the 20 portraits. Students chose to work in media they felt comfortable using including acrylic paint, watercolors and digital painting/drawing. The results are fabulous and highlight each student artist's style through their interpretation of the young person. For more on the project visit The Memory Project website. Here is the video of our children receiving their portraits. About the Memory Project: The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as violence, disasters, extreme poverty, neglect, and loss of parents. We want the portraits to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For the art students, we want this to be an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness.
