If you are currently enrolled in Art Fundamentals this is where you will find details on class assignments.  Remember that assignment deadlines are always posted to the Google Calendar Tab. 
Assignments Sheets are posted here along with the description for each unit. 

Week of June 2 - 6

Monday- Wednesday:  Work days to finish the Meet the Masters Value painting.  Make sure you have fully developed the monochromatic color scheme. 

Thursday/Friday:  Meet the Masters Critique
and discussion of the Exam for Art Fundamentals. 

  1. Make sure you are prepared to discuss who your artist is, Why you chose this artist,
  2. What style they work in and historically when they worked
  3. What country they are from . 
  4. Be sure too, that you have the title of the painting. 

This will all be part of your artist statement along with analyzing how you met the criteria of the assignment. 
All of this is the same information you should have already been posted to the NING. 

The Art Room Will be Open Monday 6/2 and Thursday 6/5 until 4:30 for extra work time.  If you are behind please use this extra time.  You will need to work in room 114 with Mrs. Bjork


Week of May 26 - 30

Tuesday/Wednesday:  All value scale paintings were due last week.  Please make sure yours was turned in.  Students will be continuing to paint their Master Artist Monochromatic Value scale painting.  Make sure all of your NING research is complete and that you've posted the details of the Artist's information.    You will be sharing this information during critique.

Thursday/Friday:  Continue working on the Masters Monochromatic Value Scale Painting. 

Mrs. Bjork's class needs to write an artist statement for their glazed vessel.  Please complete a grade sheet and statement by Thursday this week.  We will critique the Clay Vessels on Monday, June 2nd.

Monday 5/19 & Tuesday 5/20

Students will complete a set of value scales with the monochromatic color scheme of their choice.  They will also continue drawing their masterpiece paintings on a large piece of paper.  Make sure all of the ning research is completed and that your artist's name is listed on the Google Doc.

Wednesday 5/21 & Thursday 5/22

Week of May 12-16

Monday 5/12
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will critique their reduction prints in class.  They will post their finished work to the ning, and comment on 3 other student's work.  Cartoons and artist statements are due next class; any work relating to cartoons must be done by Tuesday or Wednesday.

LINO CUT CRITIQUE TODAY! Photograph your work and post a written artist statement to the Ning to discuss your print. Make sure everything is ready for critique.

Directions On Copying and Editing Your Master Painting:
Create a copy of a master artist's painting using a monochromatic color palette.
This means you'll choose one color use tints and shades of that color to create the Value Range for the monochromatic painting.  
  1. Download a copy of the master artist painting you wish to copy.
  2. Save into your Art folder.
  3. Open this jpg in Photo Filter
  4. Turn the image into a black and white image and save as Value Painting
  5. Now use this image to help you complete the painting assignment.  By turning the picture black and white you can see all the values of the colors the artist used. 
  6. You will post a copy of the original color painting and this new value painting to the ning.

Tuesday 5/13 & Wednesday 5/14
Students will be researching a master artist for the "Meet the Masters" painting project.  They will select an artist, report on their artist on the ning, and select a masterpiece painting to recreate in a monochromatic painting.

Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will be critiquing their cartoons in class today.  All cartoons and artist statements are due at the beginning of class.

Mrs. Bjork's Class: We will be learning how to glaze our vessels.  Please come prepared for this.  You will also need your laptops. 

Thursday 5/15 & Friday 5/16
Mr. Lamp's Classes:  Students will create a value scale using tempera paint.  Using a single color, black, and white, they will gain practice mixing tints and shades of a single color.  In addition, they will draw their masterpiece painting on a large piece of paper to prepare for the final painting.  By the end of the hour students should have a black and white version of their painting printed for reference.

Friday 5/16
Mrs. Bjork's Class: 
Students will be researching a master artist for the "Meet the Masters" painting project.  They will select an artist, report on their artist on the ning, and select a masterpiece painting to recreate in a monochromatic painting.

Meet the Masters Research
By the end of this week all students should have chosen a Master Artist from the Google list linked here.  Make sure to do the research before choosing and be prepared to have more than one artist in case someone in your class has already chosen that artist.

Monday 5/5 & Tuesday 5/6
Students will be finalizing their lino-cut reduction prints.  Students will choose one print to mount for critique.  They will also be working on artist statements in class.
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will also be allowed to work on their cartoons in class.

Wednesday 5/7 & Thursday 5/8
Mr. Lamp's classes: Students will complete their printmaking in class, including mounting their work and completing their artist statement.  They will also be allowed to complete their cartoon in class.
Thursday: Mrs. Bjork's class will be working to finish their linocut prints for Monday's critique.  Make sure you've posted a photo and artist statement to the ning. 

Friday 5/9

Week of April 28-May 2

Monday 4/28 & Tuesday 4/29
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum, following their plan and the proper procedures demonstrated during class.  Students should have 3 colors printed by the end of class today.  Cartoons may also be worked on today during class.
Mr. Lamp's classes
All glazing on ceramic vessels must be done today.  Artist statements for the ceramic vessel should also be written and ready for next class.

Wednesday 4/30 & Thursday 5/1
Students will continue their reduction printmaking project.  They will work on carving and printing their linoleum, following their plan and the proper procedures demonstrated during class.  Students should be ready to print their 4th color by the end of class.  Cartoons may also be worked on today during class.
Mr. Lamp's classes
We will critique our nature inspired ceramic vessels today in class.  Rubrics and artist statements must be submitted by the end of class today.

Friday 5/2 - Half classes
Students will work on reduction prints and cartoons in class today.

Writing an Artist Statement

Students will be required to submit an artist statement that follows the "ITS CLEAR" method for all art work.

Getting Started

We will be setting up our online and in class room learning environment in the first days of class.  You will want to bookmark the following:

  1. This website assignment page
  2. The ning sites posted to the right.
  3. The Google Assignments Calendar
  4. You may also want to subscribe to the Art Blog for the latest news from the art department including exhibit opportunities, scholarships and more. 
  5. We will no longer be posting to School Fusion, so please make sure you've bookmarked this site. 

Supplies
For daily class you need your laptop and you also will need a sketchbook and number two pencil.  The Sketchbook should have at least 50 pages and be book or spiral bound.  8.5" x 11" or 9" x 12" is a perfect size. 

We will be making portfolios the first day or so of class.
