December 2015 Intervention DetailsLinked here is the schedule being used for the Thursday, December 10 and Friday December 11th for Intervention.
End of Term 1 Art ExhibitsStudents have been busy completing much of their first and second units of study in the Art Department Studio and Digitally based art classes. Much of the work we've produced will be posted in the school galleries which include the atrium near the auditorium and gallery near the cafeteria. Make sure you stop by to see some of the wonderful artwork that students have created. We're off to a great start!
Standards-Based GradingPewaukee High School has moved to Standards Based Grading (SBG). The Visual Art department piloted an SBG rubric last year during second semester with the Introduction to Digital Imaging Course. We will now use a similar rubric with all Visual Art classes. There are 4 standards that we will base grades on in all studio/digital courses. The only exception to this will be Art History and AP Art History. Mr. Lamp will share more on the specifics under his Art History class tab. For more on SBG click this link to see details.
For more on Standards Based Grading for the High School please view Mr. Van Hulle's Screen Cast here. Meet the PHS Visual Art Teachers

Medal of Awesome Comes to Art DepartmentOn Tuesday, November 17th Hayley Nangle awarded the medal of Awesome to Mrs. Bjork. Hayley stated....."Ms. Bjork pushes students to do their best in art and has led many of us to discovering our inner artistic voice. Without her guidance, there’s no way I would be where I’m at now with my work. Her methods of teaching work wonders."
On Wednesday November 18th Ms. Bjork awarded the medal to art student Miranda Kennison. Miranda is an AWESOME person. Her joy and love of art are contagious. She loves art so much that she often just hangs out in the art room even when she's not in the class. She is a kind person who really loves art. On Thursday, November 19th Miranda Kennison gave the medal to Mr. Lamp for being AWESOME and especially great with Art History. On Friday Mr. Lamp gave the medal to art student Emily Burk. We are keeping the medal in the department until further notice! :) Congrats to all for being AWESOME! Mrs. Bjork Presents At WAEA State Convention on AnimationMrs. Bjork presented Roto What? Get the Scoop on Rotoscope at the Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA) state art education Conference in Appleton, WI on Thursday, October 22nd. WAEA Chooses Mrs. Bjork Top HS Art Educator in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA) has chosen their 2015 award recipients and Mrs Bjork was chosen as the Secondary Division Art Educator of the Year for 2015. This is a really BIG honor to be chosen as the best high school art educator in the state. The awards will be given on October 22nd in the evening as part of the WAEA Convention held this year at Lawrence University in Appleton. Special thanks to Marty Van Hulle for his letter of nomination and support. There were also several alums of PHS who wrote letters of support (Hannah Greene and Rachel Sauer) along with several of Mrs. Bjork's Art Education colleagues (Anthony Lauer and Meagan Hahn).
Parent CommunicationThis year the teachers and administration at Pewaukee High School are more dedicated than ever to trying to communicate thoroughly and regularly with parents about their students' work and progress in classes. According to school parent surveys parents want more email notices of progress. To that end the art department will have students regularly sending home email notification following class critiques. Students will tell you in the email how they did with the critique and why they feel this way. Look for these emails to start coming home soon as we are getting close to finishing our first units.
