Create fully rendered color drawings based on free choice subject matter. Connect knowledge of value scale and rendering techniques to drawings made from observation and imagination. Tuesday: Meet with me to show your written proposal and 6-8 thumbnails for the final free choice drawing. Get started on Free Choice drawings, making sure your drawing meets the criteria of the project. Thursday: Free Choice Drawing studio work day. Week of December 8 -12

Create fully rendered color value scale drawings through observation to develop further ability with media and rendering technique. Monday: Critique of Self Portraits, make sure you have a typed and printed out artist statement for critique. Intro to next unit on Color. Wednesday: Color rendering with varied media. How to build up tones and value scale with color media. Make sure you have your sketchbook for class. Friday: Develop more full color studies through observation and use of varied color media. Written proposal for final free choice full color drawing due next class. Must be typed using It's Clear format.

fully rendered gray scale self portrait based on observation, that
illustrates a unique point of view or expression and utilizes the
appropriate rendering technique for the chosen media.
Tuesday: Continue working on self portrait in chosen media. Make sure you are working from observation, developing an expression or unique point of view and creating a full range of value with the chosen media. Week of November 17 - 21
Learning Target: Create a fully rendered gray scale self portrait based on observation, that illustrates a unique point of view or expression and utilizes the appropriate rendering technique for the chosen media.
Monday: Intro to Self Portraits: Watch and listen to the embedded PowerPoint about Self Portraits. Take notes especially on the details of how to set up a portrait. Draw along in your sketchbook to practice setting up the proportions. Using the mirrors, develop sketches and expression studies for the Self Portrait unit. By the end of this class you should know which expression and position you plan to pose in for your self portrait. Download the description of the unit for details on what to do in your sketchbook. Wednesday: Continue to create realistically rendered dramatically lit still life drawings based on observation. Use gray scale paper and pastels. Last day! Week of November 3 - 7

Create the everyday superhero posters that develop a monochromatic color scheme through art deco styled poster design. Utilize complex, dynamic space and shapes with an awareness of negative space. Monday: Formative meetings with Mrs. Bjork to discuss research, thumbnails and proposal for Everyday hero project. Finish sketchbook value studies. Further discuss Monochromatic color and what this involves. Start on Super Hero drawings. Wednesday: Create everyday superhero drawings in monochromatic color scheme, showing art deco style and realistic rendering as well as complex composition in the style of 1920-30s poster design. Friday: Continue Monochromatic color scheme Superheroes project. Due for critique on Thursday November 6th Week of October 20 - 24
Tuesday: Introduction to Value Unit. Discuss the concept of value and how to develop mark-making sets to build up values in black and white and color. View Value/Markmaking Pinterest Board for examples. Develop sketchbook value scale in BW and Color. Create 6 shape sketches and render 3 in BW and 3 in color to make them look 3-dimensional.
Briefly introduce the Super Hero Project. Looking at the idea and discussing the Sketchbook requirements. Thursday: Use Mrs. Bjork's Everyday Superhero Pinboard to research Art Deco and the idea of Super heroes. Getting Started: Day 1
MONDAY: We will be setting up our online and in class room learning environment in the first days of class. You will want to bookmark the following:
Supplies For daily class you need your laptop and you also will need a sketchbook and number two pencil. The Sketchbook should have at least 50 pages and be book or spiral bound. 8.5" x 11" or 9" x 12" is a perfect size. We will be making portfolios the first day or so of class. TUESDAY: Make portfolios and set up where we will store our work. Define Drawing, set goals for the course. Test our abilities in drawing. Mini critique of work. THURSDAY: Introduction to Line Unit- Take notes and discuss the elements and principles of art as related to drawing. Focus on Line. Drawing with blind contour lines. ExamsAssignment Description: Final Exam
You will present your selective portfolio to the class. It will consist of what you consider to be your top 3 Drawings created during this semester. Your final free choice must be one of these! After the exam you will take your portfolio and sketchbook home unless I’ve asked to keep something to be photographed or put in a future exhibit.
