If you are currently enrolled in Drawing 1 this is where you will find details on class assignments.  Remember that assignment deadlines are always posted to the Google Calendar Tab. 
Assignments Sheets are posted here along with the description for each unit. 

Week of January 20-24

Monday, January 20:  Last day of first semester classes, B day.  Mac lab and art room  open until 4:30 after school.

Week of January 13-17

Monday 1/13 A day:  Thumbnails and 5-7 sentence paragraph write up explaining how you will meet the criteria, media you will use etc. due at beginning.  Get started on Free Choice final drawing.  Details are below. 

Tuesday 1/14 B day:  Work day on final free Choice drawings due for critique on Exam day.  Make sure you're also working on your written exam.  See details to the right.

Wednesday 1/15 A day: Work day on final free Choice drawings due for critique on Exam day.  Make sure you're also working on your written exam.  See details to the right.

Thursday/Friday 1/16-17:  Work day on final free Choice drawings due for critique on Exam day.  Make sure you're also working on your written exam.  See details to the right.

Week of January 2-10

Thursday/Friday 1/2-3:  Final in class day to work on Nature Inspired full color drawings.  Complete artist statement and prep for critique next class.  

Monday/Tuesday 1/6-7:  Critique on Nature-Inspired Full Color drawing.  Make sure you have a completed artist statement and grade rubric. 

Intro to Final Project:  Final Free Choice Drawing 
  • Must showcase skills learned in this class.
  • Must be fully rendered in media of your choice and rendering technique of your choice. 
  • Must show complex composition, concept and excellent craftsmanship with the media chosen. 
  • Must utilize one or two principles of design to develop concept and composition.  
  • Must use reference photos to portray realism of subject and illusion of 3-dimensional space.
  • Must use color media you haven't used yet for project.
  • Must be 11" x 14" minimum size if using color pencil. 
  • Must be 16" x 20" minimum if using all other media.  

Wednesday/Thursday 1/8-9:  Written proposal (5-7 sentence paragraph) explaining your Free Choice drawing idea and 6-8 Thumbnail sketches due today! 

Friday/Monday 1/10-13:  Work day on Final Free Choice Project

Week of December 16-20

Monday/Tuesday:  Work Day on fully rendered, nature inspired drawing. 

Wednesday/Thursday:  Work Day on Fully rendered nature inspired drawing. 

Friday:  Work Day on Fully rendered nature inspired
drawing. 

Full Color Nature Inspired Drawing is Due on
 January 7-A day/January 8 B day

Week of December 9-13

Monday/Tuesday:  Full Color Still Life set up.  Use your own choice of color media (pastel, oil pastel or color pencil) and draw the still life set up.  Today will be the only class on this. 

Make sure sketchbook studies are finished including color wheel, tint/shade and tone, color worksheet and 6-8 thumbnails planning your Nature Based drawing.  

Wednesday/Thursday:  Sketchbooks due with color studies and finished 6-8 sketches for your full color rendering drawing.  Get started on your nature based color rendering assignment.  Make sure you have your reference photos.  

Friday/Monday: Work day on full color Nature Based drawing.  Choose color media (pastel, oil pastel or color pencil).  

See unit details below.  Remember your color theory as you begin rendering.

Week of December 2- 6

Monday 12/2:  Introduce Color Unit; Discuss color theory and color media choices.  Do sketchbook color assignments including color wheel, color shapes and color still lifes trying all 3 media (chalk pastel, color pencils, oil pastels)

Wednesday 12/4:  Continue with worksheet/sketchbook assignments.  Choose full color subject for Nature-Inspired drawing.  Develop 6-8 thumbnails planning the full color work.  Final drawing must be 16" x20"  minimum in one of three color media. Finished thumbnails are due next class, also make sure you have the photos with you next class so we can get started.

Semester Exam Information

Your semester exam will consist of a paper and a presentation of your selective portfolio.  The paper should be word processes and printed for the exam day.  Exam day will NOT be a work day, instead students will present their portfolios and papers to the class.  Please see the details of your exam and the rubric it will be graded with here.
