This week we will begin our Monochromatic Still Life Paintings. You may use the objects I have at school or bring in your own. Each table will set up their own still life to work from. Make sure you photograph your still life so you can re-set it up the subsequent classes.
Things to remember for the still life:
Your thumbnails planning your painting were due last week Thursday 9/12. Make sure you showed them to me. Think about the 3 Cs of quality art making as you design your painting: 1. Concept: What's your idea? How can you make your painting unique and interesting. 2. Composition: How will you design the 2-dimensional space of your painting? Make sure you have the minimum number of objects and an interesting background. 3. Craftsmanship: How will you use the media? How do you blend smoothly creating tints and shades of the color chosen. Getting Started Day 1We will be setting up our online and in class room learning environment in the first days of class. You will want to bookmark the following:
What is painting? What makes a painting good? What are the characteristics of a quality painting? Graffiti a board with your table team that answers those questions. Use words, colors and images to design. Make sure the artists from your table have tagged their names into the design. Check out my Pin Board on the topic for inspiration. http://pinterest.com/bellafiore3/street-art-and-graffiti/ Supplies For daily class you need your laptop and you also will need a sketchbook and number two pencil. The Sketchbook should have at least 50 pages and be book or spiral bound. 8.5" x 11" or 9" x 12" is a perfect size. We will be making portfolios the first day or so of class. |
Semester Exam InformationYour semester exam will consist of a paper and a presentation of your selective portfolio. The paper should be word processes and printed for the exam day. Exam day will NOT be a work day, instead students will present their portfolios and papers to the class. Please see the details of your exam and the rubric it will be graded with here.
