The Stop Motion assignment became a culmination of all the techniques that students learned this term. Some students chose to combine rotoscope with stop motion. The goal of this assignment was to highlight story and character development. The unit was broken into 3 phases of creations: Pre-production, Production and Post-Production on the computer. Students spent time in pre-production planning the arc of their story with a plot diagram and drawn storyboards. They then created their 3 dimensional sets with whatever media they wanted. Students were introduced to Tim Burton claymation, lego-mation and more. They also looked at shadow puppets, felted characters and other media to really stretch their imagination as to how to create the characters. Production lasted for about 2-3 weeks and including learning about how to shoot good photographs and utilize various camera angles and shots. Post Production involved students working in Photoshop, Garage Band and iMovie to complete their stop motion animation.
