Unit Description: Assemblage Sculpture
You will create a 1-2 foot high/wide assemblage sculpture using found/recycled or junk objects. Develop a concept for your sculpture that reveals something about yourself that the class might not know. Using found and re-purposed objects, students will gain experience with composition and communication using objects that already exist.

Monday 9/9
View a variety of artists that create assemblage sculpture, and research assemblage artists independently. Understand the process for beginning the assemblage sculpture and begin thumbnail sketches for sculpture.

Complete assemblage sculpture thumbnail sketches and discuss decisions with Mr. Lamp. Understand the procedures for building the sculpture. Begin creating the assemblage sculpture from found/recycled/junk materials.
Friday 9/13
Continue creating the assemblage sculpture using learned techniques. Understand that constant reflection is necessary when creating art. Examine our decisions to this point in the sculpture and make necessary changes to preliminary plans if necessary.

Also, take a photo of your sculpture from a minimum of two perspectives and post them to the NING. Statement and sculpture must be ready for critique next class. Sketchbooks are due at the end of class today.

Assemblage Sculpture Critique Day!
All assemblage sculptures, photographing and documenting, and artist statements should be finished by today. We will spend the entire day critiquing assemblage sculptures and discussing our artistic decisions.
Friday 9/27
Introduce the human body in motion sculpture and artists that have sculpted the human body. Complete an activity about human body proportions and discuss our findings.
Complete the assemblage sculpture using learned techniques. As the sculpture is completed, write an artist statement for the work using the "IT'S CLEAR" method. Also, take a photo of your sculpture from a minimum of two perspectives and post them to the NING. Statement and sculpture must be ready for critique next class.
